At ‘The Drama School’:
We believe that drama is the most effective way for children to learn about themselves and how to maximise their potential.
AN OVERVIEW OF OUR 12 MONTH PROGRAM:
What makes our program unique is that our staff tailor weekly classes to suit the cohort and individual need! In fact, our end of year show is written and shaped by the children so it is meaningful, relevant and engaging.
Students are able to join at any time during the year as our sessions assume that most children are in the business of discovering their favourite thing to do!
TERM ONE:
The focus is on becoming familiar with their peers, making friends or reconnecting with past students. Teachers identify what dramatic skills the particular group of children need and want to learn. This is done through a sensitive approach to each individual and with significant expertise. Classes consist of fast moving, fun warm up activities, a series of targeted learning experiences and an enjoyable game to finish on a ‘high’.
TERM TWO:
Provides students the opportunity to experience a different style of acting as they ‘work to camera’. Each week students create footage to be edited into a DVD. They enjoy their own achievements and the success of others through our ever popular ‘Film and Popcorn Night’. The students usually arrive for this in their pyjamas ready to be entertained and feast on a few treats.
TERM THREE:
Employs visiting specialists from the arts industry that broaden our students Performing Arts experience. These tutors may come from a dance, music, circus or theatre base. As the term unfolds the End of Year show becomes central. Each group decides on style, content and theme of the performance. Students are free to be involved in a large scale role or some enjoy a lower profile. It is intended that each child is challenged while benefitting from the life- long accolades of success.
TERM FOUR:
This is the completion of our year’s journey as students create their own, unique performance piece that relies on their co-operative, written, theatrical and creative skill. It’s always different, deeply meaningful and often hilarious as it comes from the children themselves. The performance focuses on the acting so costume and props are kept to a minimum. Our objective is that everyone is totally involved, either braving an audience for the first time or enjoying displaying their theatrical flair!
